Nickelodeon (often shortended to Nick) is a television network that was launched April 1st, 1979, making it the 1st cable network for children. It's demographic is aimed towards kids and teenagers aged 2-17. Nickelodeon programming mainly consisted of original animated shows (known as Nicktoons), live-action shows, and gaming shows. Nickelodeon consists of three blocks: Nick Jr. standard Nick, and Nick-at-Nite.

While the network did launch on April fool's day, Nickelodeon was tested on December 1st, 1977 with Warner-Amex being the owner during that time. Nickelodeon was referred to as "Pinwheel" at that time also. In 1986, Warner-Amex sold Nickelodeon along with the sister channels MTV and VH1 to Viacom.
